Featured Project: Aging In Place

Your home should continue to support you and your loved ones at every stage of life. Aging-in-place renovations make it possible to remain safely and comfortably in the home and community you love, even as physical or cognitive needs change over time.

These kinds of projects usually begin with a simple question: “How can I make my home work better for me—not just today, but for the years ahead?”

We specialize in renovations that support independence, reduce risk, and improve everyday living—without sacrificing style or function. Our solutions enhance safety, comfort, and long-term usability through:

  • Universal design upgrades that future-proof your home

  • Smart and assistive technologies that simplify daily living and increase peace of mind

  • Custom modifications such as improved lighting, grab bars, and mobility-friendly updates

One of our clients came to us looking practical updates that would serve as the foundation for evolving their home into one that would support them well into the future. As they walked through their home and reflected on what they wanted for the years ahead, they began to see a broader picture of what aging comfortably in place could look like and what was possible:

Entryways

We began outdoors, where safety and ease of movement matter most.

  • Ramps eliminated stairs and high thresholds. Handrails added stability along key pathways. Widened doorways and removed thresholds made movement smoother, while door chimes provided peace of mind by signaling when doors were opened or someone was exiting.

  • We even tucked away traditional door knobs to avoid visual confusion.

  • Inside, we replaced slippery floors and high-pile rugs with low-profile carpet, cork, or rubber—materials that feel good underfoot and reduce trip hazards.

Bathroom & Bedroom

In these essential spaces, comfort and safety took center stage.

  • Grab bars were added near the toilet, in the shower, and even beside the bed and favorite reading chair.

  • Lever-style fixtures, a shower bench, and a comfort-height toilet made everyday tasks easier.

  • Nonslip mats and textured flooring—stone, tile, wood, or laminate—created stable surfaces that look beautiful and perform well.

Kitchen & Living Spaces

Together, we reimagined the heart of the home.

  • Lowered cabinets and pull-out shelves improved access.

  • Countertops at varied heights supported both standing and seated tasks. Rounded-edge furniture, stable high-seat chairs, and trip-free pathways helped maintain both independence and safety.

Lighting & Electrical

Lastly, we shaped the environment with smart, intuitive lighting.

  • Motion sensors and night lights guided safe movement through hallways, bathrooms, and closets. Brighter, more abundant fixtures improved visibility throughout the home.

  • We checked smoke and carbon monoxide detectors—whether battery-powered or hardwired—to ensure they met safety standards and were positioned for quick detection.

Wherever you are in your own planning process—whether imagining a few changes or dreaming of a full renovation—our team is ready to help bring your vision to life.
